Friendship bracelets birthday present

We made these today as a team effort.  Depending on what you use for glue depends on the level of supervision.  We were using hot glue so this required a bit more than craft glue would.  They turned out so nice and I think we will be making more. 

Need:
Ribbon
Velcro
craft glue
hot glue or epoxy (dots)
glass flat marbles ( like the ones used in flower arrangements)
old magazines foe words and images

1. Cut out images or words that fit on the back of the glass piece and glue on with craft glue. Let dry thoroughly.
2. Cut ribbon to wrist length and fold end over then glue. This will keep them from fraying.
3. Stick Velcro onto ribbon, placing one piece on the upper and one on the lower.  If using Velcro with adhesive, you do not need to add any glue.
4. Once the glue on the glass marble is dry, use the hot glue or epoxy to adhere the glass to the ribbon.  Make sure not to glue it to your working surface.  It will rip the image off as you pull it from the surface. Ask me how I know this...?

It took us about 25 minutes to make all 5. 

As the 7 year old says..."easy peasy lemon squeezy!"

She picked images that her friend would like.  The are for a birthday gift for a 7 year old girl.  We hope she wears them all at once!

For the trees! - We needed our own Lorax to go with our new book.

This past weekend, my daughter went to see the new Lorax Movie and loved it!!!  She then went straight to B & N bookstores with her granparents to get the book.  She too love it so.  I felt that I could combine her love of reading with my love of crocheting.  I finished this little guy in one day. 

After a good night sleep, they had a nice breakfast together and she was for a nice St. Patty's Day celebrations at school (a few days early due to a nice 4 day weekend).

Bun Bun Rattle

This rattle is the cutest rattle!  I made this as a gift for a baby-to-be and I hope mommy-to-be loves it. It is a lot larger than I expected so it doubles as a small doll (10in. in length) but any child would love to shake or cuddle this sweet bunny. 

I found the pattern in Croceht today! Baby & Kids Book magazine Spring 2012 issue.  It was also publish in an older May/June 2009 issue.

Felt Workshop @ Edinboro University

On Feburuary 17th, 2012 I taught a wet felting workshop.  It was a lot of fun and pretty informational.  I look forward to doing more workshops with the Sculpture and Fibers Club.

During the demo, we talked briefly discussed the history of felt, some of my work, and who the students could potentially incorporate the process into their own work.  It led to some interesting conversation. 

Then we got to work.  I showed the students how to felt wool roving.  We talked about/ did demos about flat sheets, beads and mixed colors.  What a fun time and they left excited about a new material.

Homemade Goldfish Crackers

These are delicious but very tedious! I love to bake but we may go with just squares next time.  A fun project with kids.
They turned out to be paler in color than store bought fish cracker but were way tastier...mmmmmmm.  I am trying pepperjack next.

The Cat's Hat pin

It was Dr. Suess's birthday this past Friday and it was Read Across America Day. Couldn't find our Seuss hat, we had nothing to wear.  I looked at that sweet face and said do not despair. We whipped this hat up in 5 minutes flat. Before she knew it there was a hat just right for a cat!

Need: Foam sheet, a pin back and hot glue. 
Cut the shape of hat in white, glue red strips across, trim around edges and glue on craft pin back.  Wear with a smile.

This was the 1st of the book toy combinations.  I love this book and the toy worked great for the sweet little girl.  It was so cute my now 7 year old wanted to keep it!

I love making crafts that accompany childrens books. These make great gifts for new parents and babies! Eric Carle is one of the best childrens author/artists. I enjoy his work and making my own creations to go as companions to the books. This spider doubles as a rattle for the little one to play while mommy and daddy read the book.
